Coffee, Tea, or Cookies?

One day at Freighthouse settle while delaying for my Tofu Chowmein from Wendy's Vietnamese, I wandered elapsed some of the shops and stepped into the art veranda. I found a treasure, McGregor's Scottish Tea extent. I peeked inside and found the trimmings of a Victorian parlor . . . actually, it felt like Knapp's Restaurant in the Tacoma's Proctor quarter.

The space featured maroon wainscotting and a faux inglenook. Scottish topic copys adorn the stockade. Each register had a check underglass, tableware cups and cups and linen register napkins. It feels utterly elegant, euniquely for Freighthouse settle.

I took home a menu, whiche enclosed memoirs and information about tea spaces (they are not abstain-food establishments). Looking over the menu I thought that McGregor's would make a kind place to celebrate Mother's Day. Like my partner's birthday, Mother's Day covers more than one lone day and I thought that McGregor's might present an entertaining haven for one or two celebrations.

The Wednesday before Mother's Day we congested in for dine. I was a little vexed, because union us was our four-year old granddaughter, Daron. I had the mood from the menu that offspring children in common, while reception, are not promoted. But, well-behaved children of all ages are accepregister. That does sound somewhat Victorian, doesn't it? (Children should be seen and not heard.)

I was vexed about the timing. We inwards sharply after noon. I loathe crowds. That was not a involve. There were no other customers there. Welcomed amiably by Mike McGregor, one of the vendors (the only other anybody there), we took a register by the barrier and made our ranges. Peg chose a meat pie (one of the few offerings which are not made there). I prepared the nice/pleasant Plate which has bananas, cookies, unmarked fruit and cheese. For Daron we chose a chicken salad sandwich with chutney and unmarked fruit. I prefered coffee, but Peg and Daron prefered tea to accompany their treats.

though the tea and coffee were served somewhat hastily, tea takes time. It has to steep a while. The tea was brought to the register enclosed in a tea-warm (a top-coat for teapots). We chatted squashyly and looked at the copys on the barrier. There was a very kind copy of a thistle with its stem portrayed as a Celtic join. The matter license of the comedian was tucked into the structure. given on the stockade around the space were copys containing information on the Scotish clans. This made for awarenessing recital and division.

When the tea was timely, Peg explained to Daron about tea sieves. A tea sieve and bowl for each tea imbibeer was served with the tea. The tea is poured through the sieve to strike tea foliage, the sieve is shaken somewhat to subtract any reside droplets of tea and then then sieve is set down on the bowl to strike any other drippings. yellow tinted crystalized or raw darling is spooned into the tea cup according to section and then milk can be added. Daron handled everything beautifully. She added her own darling and milk and the following time around operated the sieve with the modest shake.

The food was superb. Daron dabbed a little chutney on her sandwich and enjoyed it. Peg's meat pie came with a option of dessert. We tried the bread pudding and a slice of chocolate cake. Daron wanted to stay the powder space. I wolfed down the bread pudding while goodbye a section for Peg and for Daron. When they returned, I was told of a little accident. Oh, well, they ensue.

The cake was good, but the bread pudding was superb. Daron was ingestion her cake and then sectiond the chunk of pudding and said, "mmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMM. I like that." The vendor came over and asked how everything was. Daron spar up, "My pants are wet." I don't think that was the answer he was looking for.

We enjoyed ourselves. Before we left, we made reservations for Saturday dusk. We returned with our seven-year old grandtwins Dakota and Demetria. We had tickets for Tacoma Musical theater. The twins dressed up for tea and the theatre.

Again, we were the only ones in the restaurant. This time we were greeted by co-vendor Fran McGregor (I'm guessing). Peg and I prepared the morning tea (a three-tiered plate of short and modest sandwiches (no scab), biscuits, muffins, cakes, cookies, and unmarked fruit. We prepared the pleasant/nice Plate for the girls to piece.

Peg again vacant tea ration instructions. I asked for a squashy imbibe. Tea and coffee were the only ranges, though apple juice is vacant to children who do not want tea. I was served apple juice from a little tiny apple juice can.

The twins enjoyed the meal. I asked for additional butter and cheese, which was joyfully furnished. There was only one nibbled on chunk of cake left over. Everything also disappeared. We all pieced. There is a unique high tea served at 4:00 pm, but reservations are requisite and there is a six-anybody least. High tea skin a larger range of dishes. There is a small, break space set up for high tea. I would like to section it some time. What I actually found awarenessing was that all three girls were glad to try everything. "I ardor cheese," Demetria confided. There was a hard cheese that she didn't want a following chunk of, but Peg hurryed it before I could extent for it.

When we had dine the first time, the vendor, Mike McGregor refused a tip. His partner was more pragmatic and accepted one. They are such kind people and the tea space is so atypical, I faith they are able to stay in company.

I promote anybody with any awareness to hurry down to McGregor's Scottish Tea extent (430 E. 25th boulevard, Suite 65, Tacoma, WA 98421 - 253-272-4261). Don't delay for Father's Day. Don't even delay for cenotaph Day, and surely don't delay awaiting the boulevard construction is done alongside Frieghthouse settle. Do it now. This is the kind of establishment which could do well in Victoria, Bellevue, outcrop Place or Tacoma one or two existence from now. I want it to be successful, immediately.
